Meet the Team

A long-time local chef and businessman, Ross Derrick, returns to his roots as the new owner of Globe, the restaurant he helped open so many years ago. Backed by a talented team of culinary artisans, we can’t wait to see you on the hill. Get to know our team.

Ross Derrick
Owner

Born in Winnipeg, Ross travelled around the world from his kitchen via his mother’s cooking, which was inspired by global cuisine. Ross trained at the Stratford Chefs School and eventually his skills brought him across the pond to Café Paradiso in Cork, Ireland, where he travelled as much as he could.

After opening Globe Restaurants at Big White and Sun Peaks, he became executive chef at Sparkling Hill Resort. Next, he opened Down 2 Earth Catering—the business that became The Table Café.

In the summer of 2022, Ross sat down with the previous owners of Globe and worked out a plan to take over the business and bring Globe to its next stage. It was a full circle moment for the chef.

When he isn’t working on his next culinary creation, find Ross spends time outside with his daughter, throwing sticks for his faithful companions Rosie and Daisy, travelling across the world in search of the best fish and cooking with his equally talented partner Kelsey.

Giving back is also at the heart of what Ross does. Programs like Sauce for a Cause donated over $5,000 to community organizations and he has produced over 100,000 meals for community members in need during the pandemic.

Alex Lavroff
Head Chef

Growing up in the Okanagan gave Alex Lavroff access to all the fantastic ingredients the valley has to offer. That sparked a passion for food and wine that he pursued to a high level.

At the helm of prominent Canadian restaurants like Summerhill Pyramid Winery—the most visited winery in Canada—and O'Rourke's Peak Cellars, rave reviews of Alex’s work followed. He has represented all of Western Canada in culinary competitions and is on his way to becoming a certified sommelier, an extremely challenging milestone.

Alex’s passion for food took him to Belgium in 2018, where he worked for famed Chef Sergio Herman in the acclaimed restaurant The Jane, which holds two Michelin stars and is ranked 33 in the world according to San Pellegrino.

In 2021 Chef Alex's farm to table passion project Kalamansi shuttered its doors due to the pandemic, and he found himself living in Vancouver with a focus on intimate, private gatherings. This allowed Alex to focus truly on the guest, the ingredients, and the highest quality culinary experience he could deliver.

Joining the Globe team in 2022, Chef Alex is excited to bring his expertise to our guests at Globe with food made from premium ingredients, prepared with creativity and passion.
